The COMPLEMENTARY HEALTH CENTRE was established due to the need for professional training with recognised qualifications. It was started by Beverley McCormick. working in conjunction with the MADGE WALLACE INTERNATIONAL BEAUTY THERAPY COLLEGE OF SKIN & BOD Y THERAPY. You can be assured of a comprehensive and professional course, resulting in well qualified therapists with excellent Nationally and Internationally recognised qualifications.

All classes are presented by specialists in their particular field, these include a physiologist, dietician, and other guests invited to present talks.

REFLEXOLOGY

REFLEXOLOGY is a science that deals with the principle that there are reflexes in the feet and hands relative to each organ and all parts of the body. Stimulating these reflexes by a unique technique can help many health problems in a natural way. It is not meant to replace medical treatment, but can be regarded as an additional maintenance therapy to more effectively improve the condition. The syllabus includes:

AROMATHERAPY

AROMATHERAPY is an art and a science in the studv of essential oils. Essential oils are used in a wide range for working on the body, helping the body to function at optimum level, and assists in creating a specific mood and sense of wellbeing.

In accordance with the International standards required. Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology is included for those who have no prior training in these subjects. A separate examination will be written in each of these sections. The syllabus includes:

SPORTS MASSAGE

SPORTS MASSAGE is training which covers another dimension of massage, and includes specific advice on safe exercise, and assistance on soft tissue injuries, as well as being able to complete an effective programme of treatment and rehabilitation. The syllabus includes:

* Anatomy & Physiology * Pathology of injury & repair
* First Aid & Management of the injured athlete. * Consultation process
* Method of Treatment & Rehabilitation * Fitness testing
* Common sporting injuries * Diet & Nutrition

ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY

A thorough understanding of principle systems and functions of the body is essential in order to offer satisfactory treatments. This is an important section of ail the COMPLEMENTARY HEALTH CENTRE Courses, or it may be done as a separate module.

SHIATSU (Basic Course on request)

Shiatsii is an Oriental form of massage using finger pressure to stimulate the accupressure points and meridians. It is effective in stimulating the flow of body energy patterns and to harmonise them. This results in better bodily function and releases toxins.

* Full Body massage including head, neck & shoulder routine.
* Theory of meridians, their location and the emotional and physical aspects of these energy lines.
* Oriental diagnostic techniques e.g. Facial, iris.
* Acupressure treatments for specific common ailments.
* Theory of 5 elements. Influential points. Alarm points, Horary clock etc.
* Chi-kung breathing techniques.

SWEDISH MASSAGE

Swedish Body Massage is a relaxing yet invigorating massage technique, which works on the insertion of muscles, for the relief of stress, strain and tension. The course includes Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology.

IRIDOLOGY

IRIDOLOGY is the science and art of analysing the iris of the eye. It is a painless, non-invasive method of analysing your constitutional strengths and weaknesses, and literally, the condition ofeacli and every organ inside your body. In a way, nature has provided us with a miniature television screen showing the most remote portions of the body by way of nerve reflex responses. The eye works two ways: not only does it enable us to bring images of the outside world within, it also shows images of what is within, to the outside. Presently, as in the past, many primary health care doctors, particula riy in Europe, have used this form oj analysis along with other diagnostic techniques to facilitate a more complete under­standing of their patient s health care needs. Iridology is all about identifying early manifestation of disease. The syllabus includes:

INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE (International)

INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE is derived from the Indian custom of over 4 000 years. It was originally developed by women using different oils according to the season to keep their hair lustrous and in beautiful condition. These techniques have evolved over the years to include not only the head and face, but also the neck. shoulders, arms and upper back. Indian Head Massage is wonderful for relieving tension. It improves blood circulation and allows for a feeling of peace and tranquiiity. it also helps eliminate waste matter from the body and distributes oxygen and nutrients to the tissues. The syllabus includes:

INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE (practical only)

A practical course is held aver 2 days in this popular therapy, for those who do not have the time to do an extended course.

The COMPLEMENTARY HEALTH CARE CENTRE is registered -with the Department of Higher Education and is also accredited by SAQA.

A non-refundable deposit of 25% is payable on registration. The balance of the course is payable in installments , with post-dated cheques or directly deposited into our Bank Account.

Examination fees are extra, and any KIT that may be necessary for a specific course, will be ordered by the College and must be paid to the College within 30 days.

The College reserves the right to alter the course costs without notice.
